On a rainy Bonfire Saturday, the ladies 4’s turned up at our alternative home pitch (Cheadle Hulme School) for what was billed as an easy game against near bottom of the league team Crewe Vagrant 3. Well how wrong we were as the fireworks started to go off with Crewe running the game from the off with Wilmslow struggling to gain possession and composure.
After a rocket of a shot at keeper Emma they found themselves in the lead. The home team rallied and put pressure on the opposition defence and a well-deserved equaliser came as Sam VD Catherine wheeled her way into the circle to take a shot that Lindsay helped in to the back of the net, 1-1 as the half time whistle blew. In the second half Wilmslow piled on the pressure with lots of runs up the pitch and had a barrage of shots which their keeper saved. A slight mix up in the mine field of passing saw the Crewe forward pounce on a ball and again another rocket past the keeper saw the visitors 2-1 up. Wilmslow never a team to settle for a loss battled to the final minutes when an absolute sparkler of a shot from Harriet across the base line saw the ball into the back of the net. 2-2 and at least a point was secured. Back at the clubhouse we had a proper Bonfire night tea of jacket potatoes stuffed with cheese with baked beans, a cup of tea and cake kindly provided by joint player of the match Sharon who shared the accolade with Hannah making her Wilmslow debut in defence for the ladies 4’s.
