Clubhouse flood: update

The Phoenix clubhouse was flooded by heavy rain in July but we are well insured and work is underway to return the clubhouse to use. There's lots of work to be done and you might be able to help! Our Club Open Day will go ahead on 9th September as planned.

As many of you will be aware, the heavy rainfall of Saturday 8th July caused flooding throughout the clubhouse bar/lounge, hall, kitchen, toilets and changing rooms. Many of you came to help remove the worst of the water and clean up in the following days - thank you

There has been considerable damage to floors, walls and appliances, as well as loss of revenue from the bar and hirers. The clubhouse is effectively out of action pending stripping out of damaged floors/walls, drying out and sanitisation. Although the toilets in the hall can be used, the main clubhouse room must not be used for health/hygiene reasons.

The good news is that Phoenix is well insured and making good progress with the insurance claim to repair the damage and compensate for loss of business. We are extremely grateful to Penny Sparrow for leading the club’s response to the clubhouse flooding.

The timescale for the clubhouse to dry out, for the insurer to agree the claim and for all the repair work to be done is uncertain - we expect it to take some months before everything is back to normal. In the meantime, we are preparing contingency plans for the start of the season. Please bear with us!

Could you help?

  • Could you support Penny in project managing the repair work, including getting quotes for the work that needs doing?
  • Are you a plasterer, joiner, decorator or floor fitter (or can you recommend someone?) who could quote for some of the work?
  • If so, please contact Penny Sparrow by clicking the contact icon below.

The Club Open Day will go ahead on 9th September, as this is an important social, recruiting, sponsor and fundraising event (it will be a little different to previous years). Please come along and support - more details to follow soon.

Look out for more clubhouse updates over the next month or so.
