Ladies 1s vs Kendal 1

Wilmslow ladies 1’s away trip to Kendal was upon them, and what should be a 1 and a half hour drive turned into a 3 hour drive of standstill M6 traffic to Kendal dyed the tone for this game.

A Mario cars race of cars down the M6 (and a spot of caravan spotting and comparing for Sammy) saw us start the warm up with 7 and the game with 9. Kendal started the game and looking lively, broke through to find a foot in the D, to give them the 1st short corner. A well drilled strike from the top saw Wilmslow go 1-0 down.

Wilmslow responded well and finally were at full capacity on the pitch. The transfers of Caz, Ella and Alice saw Kendal run aimlessly side to side. A through ball to Silky Skills Amy and a strong shot saw Wilmslow come back to make it 1-1.

Finally getting into our game, transferring and moving the ball between the layers. A quick set of passes through our attacking quad of Amy, Alex, Poppy and Morgan saw Wilmslow find a foot in the D. Short corner straight to Chloe for her trademark hidden pass to absolutely ‘meg’ the keeper for us to go 2-1 up.

The momentum stayed with Wilmslow, and a great run from Annie saw the ball into the D for Amy to slot a cheeky reverse into the bottom corner. 3-1 to Wilmslow. (I should add here that Alex nearly had her head taken off with this shot, but showed her flexibility with a matrix like drop and roll!)

Half time 3-1 to Wilmslow.

2nd half began with Aerial Chloe throwing the ball over Kendal to find Morgan in the left corner. Quick passes between herself, Amy and Annie saw Wilmslow awarded a short corner.

A great transfer from Caz to Alice, pushed in to Jess and flicked on to Poppy saw Wilmslow penetrate the D again and find a Kendal foot once more. The dynamic keeper logged to make a save but a quick dummy and pass from Amy to Jess meant Jess could lift the ball over her to make it 4-1.

A strong centre of Sammy, Jess, Chloe and Amy meant lots of turnover balls in the centre of the pitch. Great leading runs from Morgan and Poppy ensured Wilmslow could keep the pace and a ball finally fell to Alex in the D for her to make it 5-1 and be rewarded for her tireless running!

Great direction from keeper Rhi gave confidence to the Wilmslow defence. With lots of balls being fired in from our centres of Caz and Chloe, and amazing running from our wingbacks of Alice and Ella. The ball was deflected off the back line to give Wilmslow a long corner.

Sammy took the long corner fast and dribbled 10 yards before entering the D and scoring a worldie! (To make it 6-1) BUT Goal disallowed for not traveling 5 yards! (Good job youyou're a maths teacher Sammy as you took it double the allotted distance!)

Final whistle blown, giving Wilmslow the 5-1 WIN.

A tattoo show and tell and a stop at the pub for teas, with Poppy deciding (and failing) that it was an appropriate time to do the leap of faith… rounded off a long but successful day for the ladies 1’s.
