Ladies 1s vs Macclesfield

Ladies 1s vs Macclesfield

Ladies 1s rocked up to Macc with a point to prove… you’d think to the opposition but nope… to their coach Yus.

The girls were feeling a little aggrieved as their coach was taking selfies with the Ladies 4s and late for the meet.

A vibrant Annie suggests hey Yus… I’ve put that Taylor Swift song you requested on for our warm up which ultimately sealed my fate in writing this report.

The game started with the team asked to start with half court which definitely didn’t happen… Macc decided they would run at our back line as if their lives depended on it. The girls held their own under a lot of pressure with Ella P setting the tone with strong tackles galore.

After about 5 minutes Emma J decided she needed to warm up a little more and asked to come off which saw Ruth W play Rb.

The girls started to find their feet in the game and with some exceptional umpiring we saw Annie, JB and Poppy pick away at Macc's defence to no avail.

Quite literally… to no avail that said! We did eventually win a short corner and many more after this but we still couldn’t quite manage to get one in.

Macc decided to score on a counter attack and we decided to make a couple of changes to our shape as we were a little to deep.

The change of shape led to us turning the tide on Macc. (Jess didn’t quite get enough praise at the weekend so enjoy this next part).

Jess the silent assassin in midfield tormented Macc. Doing all the thankless tasks we asked of her. Tackling high up the pitch, being composed and ensuring the girls held their shape. The unsung hero of the game for sure.

Annie on the other hand decided that she was going to punish Macc by tormenting them down the right side and pressing them making them question whether hockey is the right sport for them.

With yet another change of shape and further explanation of the press the girls applied continued pressure on Macc to the point where they ran out of ideas.

Poppy banging one in as a result from the left.

Chloe T, Alex P and Amy B playing higher and focusing their energy on starting the work to get the winning goal.

JB as mercurial as ever getting the finish on the winner.

Ultimately it was a tale of two halves. The first out which showed a grit and determination by the girls and the second was to swarm the opposition.
