Phoenix needs our help! Please use the bar!

All hockey members automatically belong to Phoenix, the umbrella organisation that runs the clubhouse and grounds on behalf of hockey, lacrosse, running, cricket and football. Phoenix is struggling financially and needs help from all of us. We can all help by using the bar more!

• Phoenix made a significant loss in the year ended 30th April 2026 – in part from decisions made to tackle essential drainage, in part because bar revenues/profits are down
• The club remains very tight for cash – yet there is a backlog of maintenance work – drains, alarm, shutters, dishwasher in the bar etc
• The budget for 2026/2027 relies on a significant increase in fees from sports sections
• All Sports Sections and it's members can help increase bar revenues/profits by organising social events in the clubhouse, training bar volunteers and encouraging members to make full use of the clubhouse and bar.

• We all belong to Phoenix - we need Phoenix to be successful
• Hockey (and other sports) will pay more to support Phoenix this year
• We all need to maximise our use of the bar - if we don't use it, we will lose it!
• We need more organised and informal social gatherings to help boost bar revenues
• We need more bar volunteers to help run the bar at off-peak times and to support paid staff at peak times
• We cannot assume that paid bar staff are available to open the bar at all times - we will only use paid bar staff when the size of the event and bar revenues justify it.
