Ladies 1s vs Formby 1

First game of the season and a great start for Wilmslow!!

Wilmslow started aggressively and went two goals up in the first ten minutes. Throughout the game we were strong and held majority of possession but were not content to sit back. Formby made the most of a deflection over the back line and another in the D to grab a goal against the run of play. Heads stayed high and Wilmslow pressed forward with plenty of shots. Formby's keeper was equal to our strikes, parrying away shot after shot but was surely frustrated by our dogged determination in grabbing those second phase balls and keeping play alive for more shots.

The first half score was 4-1 with new CB Chloe banging in her first goal from a short corner to mark her full Wilmslow debut.

The half time team talk was lively to match the first half energy, the Harribo sustaining us and off we went with a slight formation shuffle.

"Samanta" unleashed a little wobble, weaving in and out of the Formby sticks to score a lifted goal and this was a Sammy theme - paying more attention to the sticks flying in Sammy kept the ball on the end of her stick riding three of four stick tackles (great advantage by the umpires) but we couldn't quite convert.

Not content with her name on the teamsheet Chloe decided to have a little chat with the umpire but avoided the little green card, and, miraculously DoD and Wilmslow were glad of this when Formby looked like they make break the defensive wall, Chloe stepping up magnificently to meet the ball and cleverly deflect it for Feg and safety.

Formby struggled to break us down second half but did manage a short corner ("sorry ump, I do have size 8 feet"). Luckily for us Becca, sideline spy, had watched them practicing shorts before the game, and gave the heads up the Formby had a decent flick, so Sammy set out to counter the flick and Rhi headed then chested the ball away for a long which came to nothing.

Wilmslow pushed for more goals until the final whistle, with lots of chances not making it to the back of the goal. Final score of 6-1 with a mix of youth and experience getting the goals and MoM decided with 3 votes showing just how much everyone put into the game.
